What is the 11+?
The 11+ is an academic exam taken by children applying to grammar schools. Children take it in the autumn term of Year 6. Grammar schools use the results from the 11+ test to decide which children to offer places to in Year 7.
The exam is designed to be challenging. Grammar schools use it to identify children working at the top of their year group.
The subjects tested can vary, depending on which school you're applying to. Grammar schools usually test some or all of these subjects:
- English (usually reading comprehension)
- Maths
- Verbal reasoning
- Non-verbal reasoning
